Context

The first step in preparing to write audio description for images is to reflect on the role of that image within the larger body of work. In the case of NPS brochures, determine the purpose of the image and its place in the brochure.
  1. Look at the whole brochure.
  2. Identify the context of the image.
    • Why is the image there?
    • How does it relate to the accompanying text?
    • How does it relate to other images ( images on a timeline, photographs of individual species clustered together, inset maps, etc.)
  3. Determine the appropriate length and level of detail to provide.
    • How much space is devoted to the image?
    • Is accompanying text (including captions) adequate?
    • What would a listener miss without the image?
