Kūlia Support Project
The Kūlia Support Project (KSP) provides one-on-one support for Native Hawaiian students that attend the University of Hawaiʻi Community Colleges (UHCC). Our project takes inspiration from the idea of kūlia, to strive. We see each student that pursues higher education as striving to expand their opportunities and reach their fullest potential.
As current and former college students, KSP educational coaches and peer mentors draw on their own experiences to help others find success on their college journey. We focus on helping students develop skills and knowledge they can use to persevere towards their goals. By adapting our support to each student’s needs, we can help them find the opportunities and resources available to them. These include learning/tutoring centers, Native Hawaiian centers and support programs, financial aid offices, and the many new resources available for online learning.
ELIGIBLITY CRITERIA
KSP strives to help each student we support to feel comfortable and confident within their college communities. Each semester we welcome new students and hope to continue supporting returning students. Our goal is to provide support to Native Hawaiian students, but we welcome all students registered in the UHCC system.
If you or someone you know is interested in one-on-one support, you can schedule an appointment with staff at one of our sites. For UHCC sites where we do not yet have a coach or for more information, please fill out our Contact Form. Mahalo!

No but we can help you prepare for and connect to relevant tutoring services that are available at your campus.
Coaching is FREE!
Coaching appointments can be arranged directly with your educational coach or peer mentor based on you and their availability.
Great question! Your educational coach or peer mentor is determined by the UH campus that you are attending. If you are a student that wants coaching but does not have a staff member assigned to that site, arrangements can be made to work with a coach or peer mentor from another campus.
You can arrange a designated site on campus with your coach or peer mentor. If you prefer a virtual meeting, that can also be arranged.
You can get coaching as long as you are part of the UH system. If you are planning to transfer out of the UH system, we can help you with the transfer process. Once you enter a non-UH system college or university, we are limited in the help that we can provide.
Absolutely! Please fill out the information card on the “Contact Us” section. Once we receive the information, we will try to make arrangements for you. Once we find a match for you, we will get back to you ASAP.
KSP began providing support services to Native Hawaiian students attending University of Hawaiʻi Community Colleges (UHCC) in Fall 2019. KSP is funded by a grant from the Native Hawaiian Education Program (NHEP) through the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) College of Education (COE).
