Teen ACE is a literacy program designed for (a) immigrants with very low levels of English language development; and (b) youth disengaged from education because of reading difficulties. Such youth are at risk for dropping out of school, gang membership, and other delinquency, unemployment, and other disadvantages.
- Teens work in pairs and small groups to create stories based on 9 pictures, using multimedia software.
- A protocol stimulates writing, self-correction, repeated readings, voice recording, and illustrated story production on CD.
- Minimal supervision is provided with maximal student control and peer teamwork.
