ACE (Actual Community Empowerment) Reading Programs and Feedforward to Promote Literacy
ACE Reading is a supplemental reading, tutoring program that pairs adult and peer tutors with 1 or 2 less-skilled readers.
- ACE addresses the challenges of literacy of children with disabilities and those who are at-risk due to poverty, language and access to technology.
- ACE utilizes best practices in reading instruction, the innovative uses of media technology, especially video and computers, and through mentoring and community support.
- ACE teaches vital reading skills to children of all ages using passage reading, sight word vocabulary, reading fluency and phonemic awareness.
- ACE helps students to believe in their ability to succeed and to enjoy reading.
- ACE trains and empowers peers (5th and 6th graders), parents, high school students, and other community members to work within the school system to improve all children’s literacy.
- ACE enhances skill mastery and self-efficiency enhanced by video self-modeling (feedforward) that produces images of success beyond the child’s current capability.
