Who is eligible for Running Start or Early Admission Programs?
For certain college courses, high school students must pass the COMPASS test at the 100 level. However, other 100 level classes do not have the same requirements but may have other prerequisite requirements. For students who do not qualify for any college credit courses, when they join the project, Hoʻokuʻi staff will tutor and mentor the student so they become ready for college credit classes.
“What is the difference between Running Start and Early Admission programs?
Running Start allows high school students to take college courses while receiving both high school and college credit at the same time. Early Admission allows the student to earn only college credit.
When can I start taking Running Start classes?
Upon completion of grade 10 and once admitted into Running Start.
When can I start taking Early Admission classes?
Upon completion of grade 10 and once admitted into Early Admission.
What grade point average do I need to take Running Start or Early Admission classes?
2.5 GPA; however, you can participate in Ho‘oku‘i while working to meet the requirements for enrollment in a dual enrollment program.
Are The Early Admission And Running Start Application Processes Different?
Yes, the application processes are different. Please contact one of the people listed on the back of the brochure to get more information and assistance with the application processes.
Will I receive college credit?
Running Start students will receive both high school and college credits upon successful completion of approved courses. Early Admission students will receive college credits upon successful completion of approved courses.
How much is the cost?
Contact Ho‘oku‘i staff for financial information. Ho‘oku‘i may cover tuition, tutoring, mentoring, books, and transportation.
