Join for Part 2: Reframing Adolescence & MIddle School Family Engagement
Date: Wednesday, August 18
Time: 9:00 – 10:30 am (HST)
Presenters: Marisa Gerstein Pineau, Principal Researcher and Strategist, Frameworks Institute &
Hadley Bachman, Program Manager of Community Development, The Ohio State University Center on Education and Training for Employment
About: Adolescence is a period of enormous opportunity and presents a critical window in which to influence long-term health, wellbeing, and educational and occupational achievement. Yet the public narrative around adolescence and the middle school years in our culture is often negative and leads to misperceptions that can create obstacles to productive policies and practices – especially when it comes to family-school partnerships.
To change these attitudes and understandings, the Frameworks Institute has conducted research on how to best reframe the narrative around adolescence to one that moves the conversation into more productive territory. In this webinar, Marisa Gerstein Pineau will share takeaways from the Frameworks research and highlights from the resulting communications strategy.
Then, Hadley Bachman will share strategies on how to promote effective collaboration between middle schools and families, highlighting those strategies that research has indicated are particularly effective for the middle school age. Together, we will practice applying these strategies to launch middle schoolers to success!
