Internship Research Goal: Develop a strong understanding of the economics of solar PV systems and homeownership, including tax strategies and real estate considerations, while utilizing technology to assess solar feasibility and engaging with homeowners to identify cost-saving opportunities and lifestyle benefits.

Island Family Homes is dedicated to helping families in Hawaii determine if solar is right for them. Hawaii imports almost all of its energy. Thus, Island Family Homes has a focus on using simple data analysis to help people calculate the benefits of being energy sustainable through renewable energy. They understand that every family situation is different and they help design custom tailored solutions for homeowners. Solar technologies that they can help you get installed include: Solar panels, energy storage, and other sustainable technologies.

Born and raised on the island of Oahu, Ted possesses a deep passion for both real estate and connecting with people. With seven years of dedicated experience as a full-time real estate agent, including four years specializing in property management, Ted’s unique background also extends to the investor realm, where he actively engages in house flipping and buy-and-hold rental property investments. He offers a distinctive blend of expertise to guide clients in making informed property decisions, whether they’re Buyers, Sellers or Investors. Currently, a special campaign to assist clients with Photovoltaic solar systems, in conjunction with Powur Energy and Hawaii Unified, LLC has been an enjoyable way to bring extra benefit to his clients and the community.

Internship duties and responsibilities

  • Learn economics of solar pv systems and how to identify money-saving opportunities for consumers
  • Learn basic economics of home ownership, capital gains taxes, and some certain advanced tax strategies for both home buyers and home sellers.
  • Utilize technology websites to evaluate homes for solar panel feasibility
  • Engage homeowners via in-person conversation or telephone to determine fit and interest in solar pv.
  • Identify opportunities to assist home buyers or home sellers in tax savings, real estate transactions, and lifestyle improvements.

Interns should be able to:

  • Do basic math
  • Hold natural conversations with potential clients
  • Work with computers
  • Take notes and putting them into templates
  • Walk around neighborhoods

2025 Internship Schedule:

  • Spring 2025: March 19 & 20, 9am – 1pm
  • Summer 2025: June 18 – July 3rd. Wednesdays & Thursdays 2:30pm – 6:30 pm & Saturday’s 9am – 1pm
    • *note 8 hours of training will be assigned to be completed online at home
  • Internship wrap-up (Virtual):  July 9th, 2:30pm – 6:30pm

*Schedules are tentative and are subject to change. Interns will be required to work 8 hours in the Spring 2025. Interns will be required to work 40 hours in the Summer 2025.
