Project Hoʻokuʻi IV: ʻOhana Lōkahi
to join things together: family harmony
Project Hoʻokuʻi helps high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors to meet the academic qualifications to participate and succeed in the Running Start and Early Admission college programs. Running Start and Early Admission are statewide partnerships between the Hawaiʻi Department of Education (HIDOE) and the University of Hawaiʻi system that provides an opportunity for academically qualified high school students to begin their post-secondary education while still in high school.

About Us
To join things together: family harmony is the theme of our project. Project Hoʻokuʻi is in its fourth
iteration and funded by the US DOE, Native Hawaiian Education Program, (Award #S362A200006). We
transition Native Hawaiian, at-risk, and students with disabilities from high school to postsecondary
education and certification programs. In this version of the project we are also supporting parents and
families through a training program aligned with Nā Hopena Aʻo (HĀ), the Hawaii Department of
Education framework that addresses the total wellbeing of students. It is our hope and goal to create an inclusive, college-bound community where everyone’s voice is valued and respected, and Native
Hawaiian traditions and culture is always a part of student learning.
