Seal of the Federated States of Micronesia

Project Dates: 2006 – 2008

Funded by: FSM Department of Education

About

Purpose. The purpose of this project is to provide technical assistance and training support to assist in the development of 1) a secondary transition manual and 2) a Post-School Evaluation Tool that is culturally relevant. Currently, the FSM has a need for a systemized transition process across all 4 jurisdictions that would incorporate culturally appropriate skill areas and be person/family centered.

Objectives/Major. Activities The major objective of this project is to develop a culturally responsive Transition Manual that can be used to help students, families and staff plan a meaningful education. The project will also hold focus groups with stakeholders (students, family, DOE staff, College, business and community) to assist with the development of the transition process. In addition, a data collection system will be developed focusing on student outcomes after graduation.

Unusual Features. The All-SET! Transition Manual will be a highly collaborative process tailored for the Federated States of Micronesia taking into consideration the culture, language and values of the communities it will serve.

Expected Benefits. The All-SET! Transition Manual will be used in the FSM to guide student planning in transition. All transition age students with IEP?s will benefit directly from this project. The outcome data collected will benefit the Nation as it will assist with determining strength and need areas. The FSM National government will support the jurisdictions to ensure accountability and successful implementation of this transition process.
