About

The Innovative and Sustainable Teaching Methods and Strategies to Enhance outcomes for Students with Disabilities in Postsecondary Education project provides professional development workshops for faculty. Workshops have been held at UH-Manoa and all other University of Hawaiʻi Campuses. The workshops focus on technology, universal design for learning strategies, rights and responsibilities, and mentoring. The intent is to improve postsecondary education outcomes for students with disabilities by increasing faculty members skills and knowledge associated with disabilities.

In addition to the professional development activities project staff have developed a mentoring component. The mentors are postsecondary education students with disabilities who volunteer to mentor faculty. The intent is to increase faculty awareness of disability issues as well as their skills in working with individuals with disabilities. Through the mentoring component faculty will receive first hand knowledge of strategies and accommodations that can assist students with disabilities.
