Curriculum Development
Pono Choices was developed and packaged between 2010 and 2013 with federal Office of Adolescent Health funds awarded to the University of Hawai‘i (UH). It is the first teen pregnancy and STI prevention curriculum developed exclusively for youth in Hawai‘i. The developers of the curriculum represent UH, ALU LIKE, Inc. (ALI), and Planned Parenthood of Hawai‘i (PPHI).
A rigorous program evaluation was conducted between 2012 and 2015. Evidence supporting the program’s effectiveness is below.
